Last portion of this Project will be the Regional Chicken project show. You MUST register for this project in Dec to receive chicks to show, if you choose to participate in the birdless program (learning portion with out purchasing and caring for actual animals). This portion of the project requires members to raise, train and show their poultry in a regional project and show. This is not required for all members but is where they can show what they learned. You are required to raise and house your birds at your home (Hens will be a long term commitment and require a coop, Broiler or Market birds are a short term 7-8 week commitment and will not require a coop and will be turned in at the end of the show and will not return home with you.) This portion of the project starts in Dec with registration and you will receive your project chicks in early to mid February with the show being held at the end of April or early May. The show is typically held on a weekday evening in either Kinston or in Duplin county depending on the year. Youth will show their birds in a breed class and a showmanship class. This show will highlight how well they raised their birds based on the knowledge they learned during the judging portion. They will have a better understanding of what the judge is truly looking for.
Request to be added to our email list for updates about joining this project!
Equine Project
Our Equine Project is all inclusive and starts in March and continues until July. Members are not required to own a Horse for all portions of this project. Members are not required to have prior horse experience but it is recommended for older more competitive members to have some knowledge of showing, but it's not required and can be taught. This project members will meet a minimum of twice a month and will be a mixture of virtual and in person meetings with virtual meetings being held on wends evenings once a month. These meetings will cover proper care, grooming and nutrition of show horses as well as disciplines, show divisions and what to expect at a Quailifying show. In person practices will be held before the regional Quailifying show in May and both members with horses to show and without horses will be expected to attend the quilifier. Horseless youth will be paired with riders and horses to shadow and learn about show week procedures and will spend time with the club leader watching different classes and learning what to look for and expect from different disciplines. This project is great for any youth interested in horses and showing regardless of ownership status.
Practices will cover the following topics:
Basic Horse Knowledge
*What to expect at a show.
*Types of classes
*Types of horses
*Parts of the horse
*Types of equipment
*Horse Feeding Management
*Classes (Broken down by class and how to judge each type.)
Equine conformation scoring
*4-H stewardship
The Second Portion of this Project is only open to youth who own or lease a horse. This is our Horse show Team. This portion of the project allows members who own or lease a horse to participate in the Regional qualifier 4-H show in Williamston, NC in May. If they qualify at the district show they can then move on to show the state show in Raleigh in July for a chance to go to regionals in Georgia! There are classes and divisions for just about every rider and rider's style. As a show team member you will participate in all the above mentioned practices and shows the same as the horseless members. It will be your responsibility to show locally and take lessons to prepare you and your horse for the District show and beyond. Riders will need their own horse and can keep and use the trainer they already have.
Request to be added to our email list for information and updates on Joining this project!

All programs will meet together for some of the meetings as they cover similar topics. Locations and times of practices have NOT been set at this time and will not be set until closer to the enrollment date. You will be required to meet on farms and travel for some meetings as we will have several farm visits through out the project for practices and the chance to see animals and judge them in person.
These are agricultural projects and your youth will learn about the processing and market (meat) side of livestock. Please be sure you are comfortable with them learning this side of livestock before enrolling in the program. We will not be processing any animals but they will see, handle and judge carcass' meat and learn where on the animals the meat or cuts of meat come from. (Exception is horse project of course as it is NOT a market animal).
Youth must be ages 5-18 as of Jan 1 2023. This means if your child turned 5 on Jan 2nd 2023 they will have to wait another year. If they turned 18 on Dec 31 2022 they will no longer be eligible for 4-H .
Initial cost is $20 per new member to join but additional fees may come up throughout the project.
Enrollment in these projects is now Open to all youth in Onlsow County. (If you are not in onlsow county but want to join please contact us @ nolimits4hclub@gmail.com)

Livestock is inherently dangerous as they are animals and can be unprodictable. Please ensure you and your child have a clear understanding of this and unsafe behavior will be grounds for immediate dismissal from the club. This is for everyones safety.
